Orion Network Monitor

Fault Management and Availability

The Orion Network Performance Monitor is a robust, powerful fault management application. The Overview section of the Orion Network Performance Monitor provides a high level view of the entire network. Every node and interface can be viewed from this single page. Each "LED" indicator on the Overview Page is automatically updated with the availability status of the remote device or interface. The Overview screen also allows you to easily drill down to device details when a problem is recognized.

The overview page is configurable to display devices and interfaces by status, type, load, response time and several other options.

The powerful alerting engine can be configured to e-mail or page you when a problem occurs. The system can send alerts based upon several device states including operational status, CPU load, memory utilization, available disk space, and more.

The Orion Network Performance Monitor also includes a robust event monitor. The event monitor allows you to view network events directly from the web. You can search for events based upon device name, type, date period, and more.

Service Level Agreements (SLAs) for Availability and Response Time can be easily managed with the Orion Network Performance monitor. This information is provided in easy to understand charts and graphs on the Orion website.

The Orion Network Performance Monitor quickly identifies if a Cisco router has CPU or Memory issues. Orion will also monitor disk space on Windows 2000, XP, Sun and Novell servers. The Orion Network Performance lets you get in front of issues before they happen.

One of the most popular features of the Orion Network Performance Monitor is the "Top Ten" View. This view quickly identifies the top ten or ten worst offenders on your network.

The Top Ten View (screen at left) identifies and displays the devices with the highest utilized CPUs. It also lists the servers with the least amount of available disk space as well as the devices with the least amount of available memory.

Not only do you have access to summary level information but you can also drill into a device and identify the total installed memory, available memory, memory currently being used as well as the current CPU Load.

The Orion Network Performance Monitor can monitor CPU, Memory and Disk Space utilization for any device that supports the Host Resource MIB.

Map Maker

The Network Performance Monitor Map Maker has several geographic templates included. An existing network topology map or any image can be used. The Map Maker lets you take this image of a map and place your current network nodes and interfaces on the map. Multiple maps can be linked to allow the ability to drill down.

The example on the left shows a world map with several nodes and regions identified by the different dots. The larger dots represent regions containing multiple nodes while the smaller dots represent individual sites. You can build your site with as many layers of grouped maps as you desire.

When a Region is selected, the corresponding map for that region is displayed (second map). The green, yellow, and red dots indicate sites with all nodes available or sites with alerts. The parameters can be adjusted so that a summary indicator changes to an alert condition.

Map Maker can import network topology maps and diagrams. This allows you to use you existing network topology maps and add them to your Orion Network Performance Monitor.

Please note the maps are also associated to the customers authorization level. If a specific user is not authorized to view a location or subnet, his map will not go into alert condition if a device outside the scope of authorization fails. Customers only view the portion of the network you define.

Event and Alert management

The Orion Network Performance Monitor includes a comprehensive alerting engine and a scalable, robust event monitor. The alerting engine is capable of sending pager or e-mail alerts based upon hundreds of user configurable thresholds. The event monitor allows you to view events sorted by device name, type, and date period. Both the alerting engine and event monitor completely searchable from the web interface.

Advanced Alerting Engine - The Orion Network Performance Monitor's alerting engine is completely customizable and capable of sending alerts based upon hundreds of user configurable thresholds. It's intuitive user interface allows you to create and configure alerts instantly.

Pre-configured alerts include notifications based upon device status, interface traffic, CPU load, and many more.

Comprehensive Event Monitor - The Orion event monitor allows you to monitor all of the critical events happening on your network as they take place - in real-time.

The Events page allows you to view all of the network events directly from the Orion website. You can sort and view the events based upon event type, device type, device name, and date/time period.
